Teens are allowed to miss up to five class days or 10 classroom hours. These classes can be made up by attending the next time the lesson is held. For example, if you miss day 5, 10, and 13, then you need to come in on day 5, 10, and 13 of another class.
For graduates, the VOE can be substituted with a high school diploma. During the summer, DPS will accept the final report card as a substitute. If a student is not eligible for a VOE due to excessive absences or tardiness at school, they must wait for the next progress report period. The VOE is required for a teen to receive their learner permit and license.
Texas requires you to be at least 15 years old to receive a permit. If you are 14 years old, you still have the opportunity to take the course. However, we HIGHLY recommend that if you are 14 years old, your 15th birthday be no more than 30 days from the first day of class.
To start behind-the-wheel lessons, you will need to have a learner permit.

NOTE: Phase One does not apply to Class M or MRDL holders.
